AVOID WATER DAMAGE AND WATER LOSS THIS WINTER

SERVPRO loves to help; we want to remind you of a few things you can do to prevent any water loss this winter, mainly because, in this season, winter can affect in several ways your property.

Protect your pipes

Burst pipes are one of the most common water loss causes of property damage in the winter, and also a costly one. Water pipes have the potential to freeze and burst when the outside temperature reaches shallow temperatures, so you better double-check them out.

Examine the exterior

Water can do severe damage when it's flowing where it shouldn't. We suggest you step outside and look at your roof, gutters, and downspouts. Broken shingles or damaged flashing can signify that water might be penetrating your roof. Please take a look at them and make sure everything is all good. It is always better to rectify and avoid any further damage, especially at this time of the year; it's expensive, and you'll have to attend immediately.

Look for leaks

Look for leaks in your bathrooms, sink, showers, toilets, and tubs. Same with kitchen, garage, and basically anything that includes plumbing, it's worth it to check them out. Also, leaks can often be detected by performing a simple check that involves turning off the water inside and outside the home; you should try it just in case!

SERVPRO wishes you happy holidays!

Water Damage Signs

Structural damage in studs and drywall Water Damage drywall problems.

Sometimes it is essential to inspect our properties, homes, offices, apartments, etc.

Here are signs you should check if there's some water damage early on:

1. Changes in floors, walls, and ceilings regarding paint, color, or texture

Many homeowners don't notice the changes to structural elements. They are hard to spot in familiar surroundings, even if you are good at cleaning up and upkeep; when water damage is on the cards, you can observe dry walls or ceilings being flaky. This condition, if left unchecked, can become bloated; also, tiles made of ceramic material often develop mold and cracks in the grout when damaged by water for being a porous material.

2. Running water sounds

Water damage isn't always visible but makes noticeable sounds. For example, drips creaks in the floorboards, and the sound of constantly running water may signify that you need repairs. In addition, tiny bubbles can result in holes in your concrete foundation, threatening the entire home's structure.

3. Increasing water bills

A sudden surge in utility bills is an excellent indicator of water damage. Ensure to check the visible pipelines and faucets in the house for any leaks. If you fail to find leaks in the visual areas, consider the possibility of water damage within the walls. If you spot any water damage, call a plumber as soon as possible.

12/1/2022 (Permalink)

Christmas tree Happy Holidays!

SERVPRO cares about you, so here is some information you should remember. We are here to help, and we hope all this information is helpful to you during this holiday.

  • CHRISTMAS TREES

One of the most common reasons to start a fire this month is the Christmas trees. They must be correctly watered and put in a spot that may help not put you at risk of your property.

If you leave the three dry out and live in a zone with a lot of natural lighting, it can cause an immediate disaster, going up in flames in a matter of seconds.

To avoid Christmas tree fires, SERVPRO has some tips for you and the safety of your commercial or residential property: Watered correctly, be careful with the lightning, and always make sure to turn off at night and remove heat sources close to the tree.

  • CANDLES

Candles are something to worry about every day. If you like to have a lot on your property, you must never forget to turn them off. Especially in November and December, families use to turn it on to make the space feel cozier and warm, but let's remember safety first, okay?

Make sure at the end of your event and keep them away from flammable things, like ovens or Christmas trees.

  • ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS

Before putting all your Christmas lights on, ensure they are in good shape and usable for this holiday; also, provide all the extension cords and other electrical wires that are explicitly labeled for outdoor use.

  • UNATTENDED STOVES

We know it's the season to put out the most extensive effort in the kitchen, also the most risked season, since it's a cause of lots of fires in the process.

Double-check when you have something in the oven. Then, when you finish, turn it off, and never leave any equipment unattended it may sound like a silly thing and tiny detail, but it could have more significant repercussions.

In case of any emergency, SERVPRO is 24/7, every day, even on holidays!

Storm photo We handle it for you!

We know that storms are always chaotic and that knowledge is invaluable when a disaster approaches; having a plan to keep us safe is of the utmost importance, so here are some tips about thunderstorms.

thunderstorm is considered severe if it produces hail at least 1 inch in diameter or has 58 miles per hour wind gusts.

Every thunderstorm produces lightning, killing more people each year than tornadoes or hurricanes. Heavy rain from thunderstorms can cause flash flooding, and high winds can damage homes and blow down trees and utility poles, causing widespread power outages.

Severe thunderstorm watch:

Severe thunderstorms are possible in and near the watch area. Stay informed and be ready to act if a strict thunderstorm warning is issued.

Warnings indicate imminent danger to life and property. Unfortunately, people are killed or seriously injured by severe thunderstorms every year despite warnings. While some did not hear the warning, others listened to the warning and ignored it. The information in this section, combined with timely watches and warnings about severe weather, may help save lives.

The above is of the utmost importance since sometimes we do not measure the great chaos that this can cause; hoping you consider all these factors.

If you are in that situation, don't hesitate to contact us, and we'll be right away.

Wall with mold Don't let it escalate!

We know that the mode is a critical issue when they come from home. There are different types of mold.

Black molds that grow on cellulose surfaces such as wood, hay, or paper, are just one species of fungi.

We also know that leading with this complex involves an intense inspection to detect its cause and create a plan that can be controlled and rooted out. It should be done by a professional service such as SERVPRO to ensure the mold and its source are remediated.

Black Mold Damage Repairs

The most common causes of mold are water leaks, flooding, or extensive use of humidifiers in an enclosed space. Once affected areas are identified, determining the source of the moisture and how to stop it is the most critical step when assessing a mold problem.

Mold Damage Remediation

Remediation, or treatment of the mold problem, may involve several steps depending on the severity. It depends on the extensive surface molds can often be scrubbed away with soap and water. In addition, an air purifier may deal with mold spores already in the air.

The mold is notoriously difficult to eradicate, and if any mold colonies or airborne spores are not destroyed, they may continue to grow and spread.

Fixing the source of the mold usually involves dealing with the water or moisture that allowed it to grow in the first place.

Homeowners can prevent or limit mold growth by keeping careful watch over the moisture in their homes. Always vent spaces where large amounts of steam accumulate, such as in the shower, kitchen, or any room that uses a humidifier. If a flood does occur, dry the affected area as soon as possible with SERVPRO's help before mold growth occurs.

We offer IICRC-certified AMRT technicians.

We can spray an antimicrobial agent to protect against future mold colonization.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have some case of mold in your home; it can escalate very quickly. In SERVPRO, we are HERE TO HELP!
